Social justice believes that everyone deserves the same right. Everyone should be treated equally regardless of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc.
What Christians can do to fight Social Injustice
How to measure Christian moral vs Social Injustice
The
first step to measuring how much compassion you have is to ask yourself
what would make you feel compassionate towards someone else? If you are not
sure where to start, try this exercise: Imagine that you were walking down the
street and saw a homeless man sitting on a bench. You could either ignore him
and walk away, or you can stop and talk to him about his situation. Which
option do you think would make you feel more compassionate?
Now
that you know how you would react if you saw a homeless person, let's look at
some statistics from the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) website.
According to NCH, homelessness affects over 1 million people each year, and
approximately half of those individuals are children. In addition, NCH
estimates that nearly 2.5 million families live below the poverty line. These
numbers are staggering, but they only tell us part of the story. What we don't
know is how many of these people are suffering silently due to lack of
compassion.
If
you answered yes to both questions above, then congratulations! Your compassion
levels are high and you are already doing something to help others. However, if
you answered no to either question, then you may need to take action. There are
several ways you can begin to change your life and become more
compassionate.
One way
is to volunteer your time to organizations like the NCH. Another way is to
donate money to charities that work directly with the homeless population. And
finally, you can share your experiences with others through writing blogs,
speaking out against injustices, or even starting a conversation with a friend
who has never thought about the issue before.
